Yesterday me and a friend we were talking about models in sl. we were shopping when we saw a skinny female model. so naturally, our reaction was like " what's up with her figure ". no disrespect or anything but with that body proportion I won't be surprise if a wind came and blow her away. thankfully no sl winds yet..so, today's post I am writing what I have observe, encountered and my friends experiences about the good, the bad and the ugly side of SL Modeling not in particular order.*Expensive*
listed the top 3 expenses
- Model School - a model starts somewhere and it is here. were one is being prep for the runways, shows and crowds. here they receive trainings, how to pose, what poses to pick, what AO to use, the do's and don't on modeling etc. enrollment may cost 2,500 -15,000 in Lindens depending on the school of your choice. after graduation a certificate is issued to the graduates.
- Clothes - couture items are infamously expensive and the high fashion community are fond of wearing gowns, avant garde inspired outfits, mix and match ensembles. bizarre looking jewelries. just compare the price range of stores who cater to the glam crowds and to the ones who does not. you can clearly see the huge price difference. one outfit may cost up to 1,000L and above. to be unique and stylish is the emphasis.
- Photographers - base on my observation majority of the models sucks at photography (no offense) and it's not common for models to hire photographers especially if they want to build their portfolio or need to win a photo contest. the popular ones are usually fully booked and sometimes you have to wait for weeks to a month for your pictures to get done by your favorite photographer. knowledge with photoshop is definitely an advantage.
- it's full of competition. occasionally there will be casting calls and auditions for an upcoming fashion shows or projects and guess what? you will be faced with competitors all wanting the same thing. there will be a theme and you will be asked to style base on that theme, you will need to prepare poses and walk the runway. you will be judged on your styling, poses, skin. there are also monthly photo contest. *NOT a Drama free zone* -
like I have mentioned above due to the competitive nature of the work, some friendly competition turned nasty and it has cause some friendship to fall apart. let's say letter A was hired by a big brand name. she tells her friends letter B and C but they were not genuinely happy for A and A was offended so, in return when something awesome happened to letter B and C. Letter A will show the same passiveness they have shown her, she becomes withdraw and widening the gap. a little conflict becomes an issue and before they know it. their friendship is over. I personally know a few, who's friendship was bitten by the green eye monster. *Little Pay* -
you won't get rich that's for sure. you do get paid for in-store modeling, shows, print ads. you are either paid in Lindens or the clothes you modeled.*Time Consuming* -
If someone is seriously want to make a mark in the model industry. it's like a full time job in real life unless you have plenty of time to spare. you do meet up, practice for shows, photoshoot etc. you might also encounter time difference. I have heard some get up as early as 4am because they have an show that morning or just to attend classes. *Restricted To the Rules of Modeling* -
NO big boobs, NO big booty.. gasp! I have to say this is the ugly part. hands down. lol I have yet to see a model wear one. I know a friend was told by her instructor not to use teeth add on so how much more for the infamous lolas and phat azz. they follow real life models, their preference are always the skinny, tall shapes. it's not because they can't change their shapes but it's the standard.*Memorable fun experiences* -
it's always fun to dress up your avi but in modeling you get to walk in the runway that some of us don't get to experience. to be watched and admired from afar. at the end of the shows, you do get a few IM congratulating you for a job well done and complimenting your look. it's heartwarming after all the hardwork. an encouraging words from strangers is very welcome. you meet new people, make new friends and work with other models even the famous ones. *You become famous* -
it's one of the privileges of being a model, your name is known through out the sl community and you have a chance to be the face of a brand. if you are famous you are sometimes featured in magazines, print ads and designers line for you especially if you have a blog.Do you have a favorite sl model?
